How to scope an MVP that ships in eight weeks
December 9, 2025 · 6 min read
A practical framework for cutting scope without cutting the thing that makes your product worth using.
An MVP is not a smaller version of the full product — it is the smallest thing that lets a real user get real value and lets you learn something specific.
We run a half-day scope workshop that produces one sentence describing the core job, a list of user stories ranked by value, and a hard line: everything below the line is explicitly out for v1.
Auth, payments and one core workflow usually make the cut. Admin panels, settings screens, edge-case handling and secondary roles usually do not — they can be added once the core is validated.
The output is a fixed scope, a fixed timeline and a demo date. That constraint is what makes an eight-week launch possible.
